Research by Dr. Zawadsky:

Comparison of Direct Anterior Approach and Mini-incision Posterior Approach for Total Hip Replacement

Results about the advantages of the direct anterior total hip replacement were presented at the ICJR International Congress in NYC October 2013 and the ISTA Congress in Palm Beach Florida in November 2013, winning a first place award. The study has been accepted for publication in The Journal of Arthroplasty, the official publication of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

The study, which was conducted by Dr. Zawadsky, demonstrated statistically significant improvements in early outcomes with the anterior approach total hip procedure. Patients went home from the hospital over one day earlier, had less post-operative pain, were more mobile after the surgery, and used much less narcotic pain medication when compared to the mini-posterior approach for total hip replacement. Total Knee Placement Surgery

I offer advanced treatment options for knee arthritis. Our non-operative treatments include medications, injections to relieve pain and improve function, and recommendations about physical therapy programs.

If your knee arthritis progresses to the point that the pain become severe and you have significant disability related to your knee, we provide surgical intervention with a total knee replacement. This is actually a resurfacing of the worn out surfaces of the knee joint. After the total knee replacement surgery, you have advanced materials which support your motion, instead of a worn out joint with bone rubbing on bone. Most patients experience excellent pain relief and can return to an active lifestyle. Biking, walking and activities such as swimming or golf become fun again since the arthritis pain is gone after a total knee replacement.

With the advanced implant designs that we use today, we expect that your knee replacement will last you for your entire life. Studies have found that at 20 years from surgery 8.5 out of 10 patients are still doing well with their total knee replacement.
